Managing Volunteers

If you manage volunteers, want to improve your skills and gain a national qualification, then Project North East has the ideal programme for you.

Project North East (PNE) is the first centre in the North East to be accredited by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) to provide the “Management of Volunteers” qualification.

Supported by the Northern Rock Foundation, the programme will enable managers to recruit, support and manage their volunteers more effectively, and will provide the skills to evaluate the contribution of volunteers to the organisation’s goals. The programme will also help managers implement best practice to inspire those who give their time freely. There is also the opportunity to achieve an NVQ qualification at level 3, 4 or 5.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the third sector, and often have different motivations to employees. Improving the way they are managed will enable volunteers to achieve their personal goals whilst allowing them to enhance the difference they can make to their organisations and service users. Project North East is meeting an important gap in training, which will enable managers of volunteers to implement best practice so that their volunteers reach their full potential.”
Anne Burleigh, Deputy Director, Northern Rock Foundation

A series of eight workshops will be delivered at Middlesbrough Teaching and Learning Centre on the following dates:

1, 15 & 29 November 2007
13 December 2007
17 & 31 January 2008
14 & 28 February 2008

The cost of the full programme is £200, of which £100 can be refunded on attendance of seven out of eight workshop sessions and completion of the NVQ in Volunteer Management within one year of registration.

Places are limited and by application only, so don’t delay – apply today. Completed applications must be returned by Friday 5 October 2007.

For further information and an application form, please contact Anne-Maria on 0191 261 6009 or email anne-maria@pne.org

PNE has worked closely with the voluntary sector for the past 12 years to provide programmes for development that are relevant, interesting, informative and fun. If there are areas of training that you feel you would benefit from, please let us know.

Until next time, happy training!
